Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua says they will do so if they form the next government.
Speaking during an interview on vernacular radio stations, Karua said the Azimio government will implement free education the university level.
She blamed corruption for the lack of full implementation of free education
“If we weed out corruption, we will need to inject very little money into the current provisions to make education absolutely free,” she said.
“We will need the rest of this year to put things in order,”
“From January 2023 we will streamline the education sector to make education free from primary school to university,” she said.
Although free primary education was rolled out by former President Mwai Kibaki, parents have been forced to make payment for some expenses
In secondary schools, the government has been offering tuition fees for students with parents footing the boarding fees.
In day schools’ parents are required to pay lunch money with some schools charging development money.
For university education, those admitted through the Kenya universities and colleges placement services have higher chances of getting the higher education loans from the government
