The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has kicked off a massive member recruitment drive in the Nyanza region.
Already, the President William Ruto led party has opened its office in the lakeside city of Kisumu to enlist new members.
UDA interim officials pledged to register 250,000 new members during the registration period running from February to June this year.
Kisumu County UDA chairman Francis Osenya says they have already kicked off the registration drive.
“So far we have registered close to 2,000 new members in this ongoing membership registration exercise across the county,” he said.

Osenya says the number of people with the intention to join the UDA party after the election is massive.
“I can confirm here that many people from other parties are willing to join the UDA party, this is after our party formed the government,” he said.
UDA party Secretary General Cleophas Malala is expected in Kisumu County on Saturday to launch the registration exercise.
“On Saturday we will launch this exercise in Ahero, Nyando Sub County and we are expecting top party officials,” said Osenya.
UDA is trying to make inroads in a region that is largely pro ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The move is seen as a strategy by President William Ruto to gain influence in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
