Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the defection of 10 politicians from Kajiado County to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“The journey to 100% DCP in Kajiado is almost complete. This morning, I received into the DCP Party 9 MCAs from Kajiado County who have decamped to the party from Jubilee, ODM and UDA,” said Gachagua.
Politicians include serving MCAs, nominated representatives and a ward aspirant drawn from UDA, ODM and Jubilee.
The new defectors add to other political leaders who have joined Gachagua’s DCP after Ol-Kalou victory.
10 Politicians Leave UDA, ODM and Jubilee
According to Gachagua, the latest entrants include Kajiado County Assembly Minority Leader Isaac Kiresian, who represents Magadi Ward and has defected from ODM.

Other ODM politicians listed in the move are Ewuaso Oonkidongi Ward MCA Joseph Torris, Kuku Ward MCA Edward Lemomo and Mosiro Ward aspirant Peter Tirishe.
Jubilee is represented by nominated MCA Caroline Ndeti, who represents Kaputei North Ward.
The largest number of defections came from UDA. They include Ongata Rongai Ward MCA Titus Matheka, Nkaimurunya Ward MCA John Maina Mutiga, nominated MCA Nais Naisiae Karia, Oloosirkon Sholinko Ward MCA Marush Kisemei and Ngong Ward MCA Mbiriri Mwaura.
Gachagua Says ‘The Ground Is Green’
Gachagua said the politicians had made the decision after listening to their constituents and assessing the political mood in their respective areas.
He argued that he did not need to ask the MCAs to “listen to the ground” because they were themselves directly connected to the electorate.
“I never asked the MCAs to listen to the ground; they are the ground themselves. They have told me that the ground is green. They have informed me that they have received clear instructions from their people to join the party that cares and listens to the aspirations of Kenyans,” Gachagua said.
According to the former Deputy President, the politicians told him that their constituents had instructed them to join a party they believed would listen to and address the aspirations of Kenyans.
Gachagua said the latest defections were part of the continued expansion of DCP across the country, with the party seeking to establish a stronger presence at the grassroots ahead of the next General Election.
