Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has endorsed another candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
Speaking on Sunday, November 10, 2024, Babu Owino rallied behind Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga to contest for the presidency in 2027.
The MP said the governor has the qualities to lead the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
He explained that these traits make Wanga a strong candidate who can contest against President William Ruto in the next polls.
“This is a lady with three most important qualities. Number one, Wanga has intellect, political acumen, the energy and the passion to work for ODM,” he said.
Babu Owino-Wanga Ready for State House Race
The MP added that Wanga can deliver victory to the ODM party in the 2027 presidential elections.
“Therefore, Gladys Wanga has been tested and proven to be a leader who can deliver ODM to State House in 2027,” Babu Owino.
Additionally, Babu Owino wished former Prime Minister Raila Odinga well as he contests for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
“I want to ask God to give Raila the wisdom, courage and strength to lead Africans,” he said.
Babu Owino asked the crowd what will happen next after Raila joins the AUC position leaving questions about his next political move.
Gachagua Replacements
Wanga’s political relevance has grown in recent months especially after he replaced National Treasury CS John Mbadi as the ODM Chairperson.
She was among the five candidates hinted to take over from Rigathi Gachagua as deputy president (DP) after his impeachment by the National Assembly and the Senate.

Tifa research ranked Wanga as the fifth preferred candidate for the position with 2 percent.
DP Kithure Kindiki topped the list with 37 percent followed by Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro second at 5 percent.
Kirinyanga Governor and former Council of Governors (CoG) Anne Waiguru 3 percent.

Politics & Life Career Before Limelight
Wanga burst into the political scene in 2013 when she became the first woman representative for Homa Bay County and was re-elected unopposed in 2017.
Between 2008 and 2012, Wanga was a Programme Manager at Liverpool VCT Care and Treatment.
From 2004 to 2008, she served as a Programme Manager, Community Projects at Trust for African Rock Art.

Gladys Wanga Education
She holds a Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
Wanga pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) at Kenyatta University (KU) between 2000 and 2004.
She pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc), in Health Management at the same institution from 2010 and 2012.
