Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said Opposition’s anti-government protest scheduled for April 3, 2023, will be their last.
The deputy president highlighted that the government will fully assert its authority after the Monday demonstrations.
“I want to caution those young men who have been taking advantage of the violence to steal property, mug people, loot property that Monday is their last day to do so,” he said.
Gachagua’s sentiments came a few days after Azimio Leader Raila Odinga declared that the coming Monday’s anti-government demonstration will be the “mother of all protests”.
However, the second in command noted that the protests were nothing short of “post-election violence” and the government was out to tame it at all costs.
“The government will assert its authority in protecting lives and property and in upholding the rule of law. It cannot happen and it will not happen,” DP Gachagua said.

Furthermore, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki had banned the Azimio protests, but the former prime minister swore to proceed with the demonstrations.
The Azimio protests seek to pressure the government to lower the high cost of living among other things.
Nevertheless, the protests that have so far happened have degenerated into violence leading to the loss of lives and massive destruction of properties. This is despite the Azimio coalition calling for peaceful demonstrations.
As such several political and church leaders have called for a truce between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga to end the political unrest in the country.
