Irungu Nyakera, current head of Kenya Medical Supply Agency (KEMSA), has predicted potential defeat for Murang’a Governor Irungu Kangata in the 2027 elections.
Nyakera shared his thoughts, predicting Kangata’s potential downfall and listing five factors that, according to him, would contribute to the governor’s defeat.
The KEMSA boss highlighted five issues that Kang’ata might have to grapple with during the election campaign including the poor state of healthcare in the county, water disputes, the choice of current MCAs as advisors, indecisiveness, and alleged neglect of farmers’ concerns.
“When Kangata loses in 2027, he will have 5 things to blame: Poor state of healthcare in the county, Water wars, having current MCAs as his advisors, Indecisiveness and giving farmers a deaf ear. However, 3 years is a long time, and he might decide to change,” stated Nyakera.
Despite the bold prediction, Nyakera acknowledged the dynamic nature of politics, leaving room for Kang’ata to make changes in the three-year period leading up to the elections.
Following his remarks on social media, reactions poured in, with Moses Githuga praising Kangata’s leadership qualities and his ability to foster unity among Murang’a leaders.
Kenyans Reactions
Githuga emphasized Kangata’s non-political approach and his success in bringing political rivals to the table for the benefit of Murang’a county.
“Kang’ata has proven that he is a leader. He doesn’t talk politics. He brought his political rivals to the table. He united Murang’a bigwigs for the sake of Murang’a county,” stated Githuga.
He concluded by expressing confidence in Kangata’s leadership, suggesting that after a decade, he could even be a presidential candidate.
Another user, Moses Njoroge criticized Nyakera’s focus on politics, urging him to concentrate on his role as the head of KEMSA.
Njoroge raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest in tenders, diverting attention from his official duties, being overly opinionated in informal settings, displaying obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and employing incorrect timing and strategies.

Transitioning from the political drama to Nyakera’s professional history, his leadership roles in KEMSA and past experiences in the public and private sectors have drawn both praise and criticism.
As the head of KEMSA, Nyakera faces challenges such as allegations of corruption within the organization.
Some critics argue that he should focus on addressing these issues instead of getting involved in political matters.
