Several Political parties in Kenya have announced leadership and structural changes as the 2027 General Elections approach.
In a Gazette notice published on March 28, the Registrar of Political Parties, John Cox Lorionokou, stated that three political parties are implementing key changes affecting their constitutions, leadership, and operational structures.
They include National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), the Democratic Party of Kenya (DP), and Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (FORD).
The parties urged the public to submit comments regarding these changes to the registrar within seven days of publication.
“Any person with written submissions concerning the intended change by the political party shall, within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties,” read part of the Gazette notice.
NARC Announces Leadership and Structural Changes
John highlighted that NARC plans to amend its party constitution and appoint new officials.
The changes include the appointment of Eric Musembi as 2nd National Vice-Chairperson for Youth and Patrick Mwendwa as 3rd National Vice-Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities (PWD).
Meanwhile, the registrar stated that FORD-Kenya also revealed plans to move its head office from Kilimani to Riverside Drive in Lavington, Nairobi, signaling a strategic shift in its operations.
John further said DP, associated with the former Attorney General Justin Muturi, is implementing a significant overhaul of its leadership structure.

• Deputy Party Leader (Programs): Jane Wanjiru Ngugi
• National Chairman: Peter Ndubai

New Parties Apply for Provisional Registration
ORPP stated that it has received applications for provisional registration from new political parties.
Among them are the Democratic Development Party of Kenya (DEK) and the Green African Party (GAP), which have submitted details including their colours, symbols, slogans, and founding members.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Section 5 (2) (a) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the following political parties have applied for provisional registration under section 6 of the Act:,” read part of the notice.

According to John, DEK has chosen green, white, and blue as its colours, with a diamond as its symbol and the slogan “All generations equal rights”. The founding members include Paul Njoroge Ben, John Mutahi Njomo, and Tabitha Akinyi Wandolo.
Meanwhile, the GAP features spring green, white, and brown as its colours, with the slogan “Tujenge Pamoja” and founding members Francis Kilemi M’anampiu, Boniface Ndege Kirigia, Priscillah Khalechi Ingabo, Joyce Mueni Kilonzo, and Paul Osogol Elung’at.
He therefore invited the public to submit any written comments or objections regarding the registration of these parties within seven days from the date of the publication.
