Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has defended United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General (SG) Cleophas Malala.
In a press conference, Senator Cherargei said UDA party leader and members have confidence in the leadership of Malala.
“Members of the UDA from the senate and National Assembly, we have absolute faith in the leadership of SG Cleophas Malala.
The party leader President William Ruto, deputy party leader Rigathi Gachagua and all the membership has absolute faith in Malala’s leadership,” said Cherargei.
Further, the senator asked those opposing Malala’s position to channel their complaints through the structures laid out in UDA party Constitution.
Additionally, he asked those with divergent opinions to vie against Malala in the planned UDA December grassroot elections.
“We urge UDA members to allow the SG to execute his duties in peace. If anyone is dissatisfied with him, let them measure their popularity against SG Malala in the forthcoming UDA grassroot elections,” he said.
Moreover, Senator Cherargei said UDA has gained life and the membership has increased since Malala took over as the SG.
“The party has gained life, for the first time the popularity rate of UDA is growing from glory to glory, and we don’t have any doubts about because he has defended the party where need be,” explained Cherargei.

Fighting Ruto
Also, the Senator said the members support the plans laid by Malala in preparation for the party’s December elections.
“If you hear people making noise, which means that the party is gaining more popularity, even the opinion polls rank the UDA party as the most popular party in Kenya,” he said.
He advised the SG to continue performing his functions without fear and stand by the principles of the UDA party.
Cherargei warned politicians fighting SG Malala stating that they are equally opposing the top party leadership including President Ruto.
“If you are fighting our SG, you are also fighting our party leader President Ruto and the same force you are using to fight we shall use it twice to crush you politically,” he said.

Malala Impeachment Calls
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Monday, October 9, filed a petition to remove Malala as UDA SG.
Senator Khalwale accused Malala of being involved in unlawful appointments of the regional and county managers.
He argued that the appointments of the said Regional and County Manager were not competitive.
Khalwale further accused Malala of favoring the managers without considering the interests of the other members of the party.
In addition, the Kakamega Senator accused Malala of overstepping his mandate and electing his friends, thereby compromising the National Elections board which is independent structure within the party.
At the same time, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa accused Malala of being unfit for the job of Secretary General.
He claimed that the former Senator had failed to equal Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party’s Edwin Sifuna.
Furthermore, Barasa stated that Malala chose to attack Kenya Kwanza’s connected parties and values rather than articulate the UDA’s goal.
