President William Ruto’s allies from the Rift Valley region have hit back at Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua over his comments on early succession politics.
The UDA Members of Parliament (MPs) led by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi said they will continue touring the country to oversee development projects and unite the nation.
Sudi faulted Gachagua’s remarks on regional politics and interference in Mt Kenya politics.
“I heard somebody say that I should not go to other constituencies while they themselves are not in their own constituency,” Sudi remarked.
He emphasized that all UDA politicians are students of President William Ruto and are free to travel to various parts of the country to support him.

“We are all students of President Ruto. Everyone has the authority to travel across the country,” he stated.
Sudi Rubbishes Gachagua Ultimatum
Further, Sudi vowed to disregard the DP’s ultimatum, stating that he will not be intimidated by Gachagua’s stance.
“You should stop the threats. You should not threaten me because I have fought many battles, and this one is small. Let’s respect each other,” he said.
The MP accused Gachagua of advancing tribal politics at the expense of uniting the country.
“They traversed the whole country, and that’s when some people were known. If you don’t want to tour the country, please stay at home,” he added.
Sudi said he will seek like-minded leaders during his tours in different parts of the country.
“I want to announce that I am ready to work with those who are ready to work with me,” he said.

Backward Politics
Similarly, a section of the UDA leaders who attended a church service in Bomet on Sunday, May 26, criticized the DP’s remarks, terming them backward.
“We have reached a point where we are reverting to traditional politics where some people say we should talk in specific places. I am here because I even want visitors to help me back at home,” said Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek.
Kitutu Chache North MP Japheph Nyakundi slammed the DP, stating that the politics of tribalism and nepotism died with the Kipande system of government.
Additionally, the MPs noted they would support young and upcoming legislators who are accused of plotting 2032 succession plans.
“As a youth, I will join hands with other young leaders like Ndindi Nyoro because we respect him,” said Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen explained that there is no space for tribal politics in the government.
“I don’t think we have the time and the luxury to do politics of hatred and differences,” he said.
Relationship with Ruto
Gachagua maintained that he has no differences with the president while his allies called for a cessation of early campaigns.
“I am working together with the president; we love each other, and we are organizing the government. He has given me a lot of work. Our government is united, and we are continuing with work,” he said.
