Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has publicly accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of taking over rent from his late brother’s apartments in Lang’ata.
In a statement on August 17, Wamumbi questioned why people had approached him for help over rent from the apartments if, as he put it, there were no disputes surrounding the matter.
Wamumbi also challenged Gachagua to let the affected individuals speak publicly about the situation, asking why they had not defended him.
“If there were no fights, and if everything was okay, why did they look for me? Why do they want help over the Lang’ata apartments’ rent, which you took over?
Tell those people the truth before releasing them. And if everything is okay, then let them speak and say so. Why is it that they have never defended you?” Wamumbi said.
The MP further alleged that Gachagua had previously asked him for money through WhatsApp messages and challenged him to make their conversations public.
Wamumbi also referred to disputes involving members of Gachagua’s family, saying his late brother’s wife and children had previously approached him for assistance.
The remarks were made in response to statements by Gachagua, with Wamumbi also disputing claims that he had been prevented from holding meetings in Mathira.
Gachagua Hits Back at Wamumbi With Fresh Claims Over Family Property Dispute
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, accusing him of misleading family members over the distribution of property belonging to the late Gachagua.

He claimed that his late brother had distributed his property among his wives, children, mother, siblings, and other relatives, with the allocations outlined in his statement.
The former deputy president said efforts were later made to sell various properties and distribute the proceeds to beneficiaries, claiming that family members received their respective shares.
Gachagua further alleged that Wamumbi later approached members of the family and told them that their property had been taken, while claiming that another individual could help them recover it.
“Then Wamumbi looked for them and told them that all this property had been stolen and that Kasongo could help them recover it. Do you hear me?”
Gachagua Accuses Wamumbi of Misleading Family Members
Further, he accused Wamumbi of misleading the family about property he said had already been distributed, arguing that beneficiaries had received money and property according to the late Gachagua’s wishes.

He also alleged that Wamumbi took information about his own properties and family business interests to another individual after Gachagua had shown him the assets.
Gachagua further referred to claims surrounding the death of an employee identified as Maureen, saying allegations that she had been killed were raised without, according to him, proper consideration of the circumstances surrounding her death.
He also accused Wamumbi of contributing to disputes involving other family members, including claims concerning Kevin and Keith, whom he said were removed from a house by the GSU before being returned.
“Kevin and Keith were removed by the GSU. They were removed and returned to the house. Their property was taken away from them. This is because of Wamumbi,” he said.
Gachagua concluded by saying that Wamumbi had brought problems to the family, while expressing regret over the situation and the role he said he had played in Wamumbi’s selection.
