The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released the weather forecast for the period between August 5 and August 11, 2025. In the forecast published on August 4, Kenya Met predicted that showers and thunderstorms would be experienced in certain parts of the country.
According to the weatherman, rainfall is expected mainly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Coast, and North-western Kenya. Morning rains are likely to occur over a few places.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over several areas. Night showers are also likely over a few places.
Kenya Met Issues First Week of August Weather Forecast
Cold and cloudy conditions are expected in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley, with mornings and nights feeling especially chilly.
Hot daytime temperatures (above 30°C) will persist across North-eastern and North-western Kenya, while cold nights (below 10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, SE Lowlands, and the Rift Valley. Strong southerly to south-easterly winds (>25 knots / 12.86 m/s) are expected across the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, SE Lowlands, NE, and NW regions.

In areas west of the Rift Valley, including the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, morning rains are likely over a few places, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected over several locations, and night showers over a few areas.
Counties in these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok.
North Western Kenya
Turkana and Samburu Counties in northwestern Kenya will also experience morning rains, with afternoon and night showers likely over a few places.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding areas, mornings will be cloudy with occasional light rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are likely over a few places, with partly cloudy nights and possible showers.

Other areas within this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi Counties.
In the North Eastern Kenya region, which includes counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy nights.
South East Lowlands
This region includes the counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County. The forecast predicts cloudy mornings transitioning into sunny weather in the mornings, with sunny intervals in the afternoons and partly cloudy nights.
Coast Region
The Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, will experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy nights. However, there’s a chance of morning and afternoon showers occurring in a few places.
