Embu residents have criticized Cecily Mbarire for distributing lollipops during a campaign event in Mbeere North.
In a viral video circulating online on November 20, the governor was seen distributing sweets to adults in Mbeere North, eliciting different emotions among viewers.
Critics argued that it portrays voters as easily swayed by sweets rather than meaningful activities.
The lollipop gesture by Governor Cecily Mbarire has been viewed by some as a less effective campaign approach, with critics suggesting that it may not have aligned with the mood and expectations of many Embu residents.

This kind of campaign plan has been seen among different political leaders, including Deputy President Kindiki, who was seen taking tea with residents of Mbeere in the midst of campaigns, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has been seen moving from door to door campaigning for Newton Karish and Dennis Itumbi, giving citizens Sukuma to get votes from them.
UDA Chairperson Under Scrutiny
As the national chairperson of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), she has also drawn political criticism on social media.
A social media user by the name Mobul said “With this kind of mentality, is it any wonder that we end up being ruled by the greedy, brutal, evil and the incompetent? said Mobul .
Growing Call for Respect and Accountability
Another Kenyan by the name Kevin Karani implied that the electorates deserve the leaders they elect.
“Kenyans are the stupid ones…we deserve bad leadership. How is a whole grown man lining up for a sweet?” said Kevin Karani.
‘From sukumawiki to lollipop it’s a new low,” Kamatimu said.
