President William Ruto has promised to fulfil any wish by the Harambee Stars players and their technical team, only on condition that they win the upcoming CHAN 2025 tournament.
Speaking during the inspection of Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, President Ruto, wearing his customized Harambee Stars jersey “WSR 01”, assured the team of his and the Kenyan government’s total support to ensure the team finds it easy to prepare for the tournament.
Promise for Harambee Stars
In a face-to-face meeting with the squad during their ongoing training at the Moi International Sports Centre, the president expressed his joy at being the president of Kenya, stating he sees the team winning the tournament.

Before beginning his speech the president, the president took a tour of the whole facility, accompanied by Sports CS Salim Mvurya, top FKF officials, and members of the president’s sports board who acted as the tour guides.
“So long as you promise me to win, you can request anything your heart desires, anything. This is your opportunity to shine, so utilize it,” he said.
The president also took the opportunity to showcase his football capability by playing a short touch-and-pass game with the national team’s coach, Benni McCarthy, who jokingly pointed out the president’s touch could help grow the team.
“When I made the decision for Kenya to bid for the rights to host the CHAN and AFCON, it was intentional and deliberate. By God’s grace, we have managed to win, and we will surely make history in Kenya in 2027 by hosting AFCON,” President Ruto stated.
“By having you (Harambee Stars squad) represent 55 million people, I have come as the president of the nation to say that the country is fully supporting you, all the way till you win the tournament,” he added.
President Ruto called for the unity of all members of the team, assuring them that the nation is united as well and ready to cheer the team on regardless of the nation’s situation.

He urged the team to believe that they are winners, insisting that the win would be sweeter as this is the first time that Kenya is hosting such a prestigious continental tournament like CHAN.
The team posed for photos with the president and later had a personal meeting with the president through their team captain, Aboud Omar.
CHAN 2025
CHAN 2025 will take place from August 2 to August 30, 2025, following multiple postponements due to infrastructure delays.
