Hussein Mohammed dismissed reports linking the federation to alleged financial impropriety in the organization of the CHAN tournament.
He maintained that the procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted within the CAF framework and that the insurance was procured by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).
He explained that the insurance cover met the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and was intended to protect players, officials, staff, and stakeholders, in line with tournament standards and the signed host agreement.
Sports CS on Ksh 42 M scandal
Meanwhile, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has said the ministry is closely monitoring the FKF leadership dispute, while taking a cautious approach to avoid interference that could risk sanctions from FIFA.
CS Mvurya noted that the government is “watching from a distance” and is encouraged that FIFA has already written to FKF National Executive Committee members seeking communication on the matter, with a decision expected after all parties submit their responses by May 1.
He added that the ministry is being careful in handling the situation to avoid a repeat of the 2021 FIFA suspension, which led to disruptions in Kenyan football, wasted resources, and missed tournaments before the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) later dropped related charges.
The CS further stressed that nothing should be allowed to derail Kenya’s preparations and ambition to successfully host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
