Global communication giant WhatsApp has introduced new text formatting feature to enhance texting experience for its users.
The Meta owned messaging service announced the introduction of the new message formatting feature on its Channels on February 21, 2024.
“New text formatting feature has entered the chat,” shared WhatsApp.
The new features of the Meta global messaging App include bulleted and numbered lists, block quotes and inlined code.
These tools aim to help users better organize and emphasize their messages, making it simpler to convey information clearly.
What’s more, the formatting options have been in the works for some time and are now accessible on WhatsApp across various platforms such as the android, IOS web and Mac., including support for channels.
WhatsApp Older Features
This new feature complements the existing formatting features like bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace.
To utilize these new formats, users can employ simple markdown style syntax directly within their messages.
Channel users can use the new feature as explained below.
Bulleted lists- Users can create lists using bullet points by placing a “-” symbol at the beginning of their text, followed by a space.

Numbered lists– Similar to bulleted lists but with numbers, the feature allow users to list items in a specific order.
To use this format, users should add one or two digits, followed by a period and a space (e.g., “1. “).
How to Use the Invented Features
Block quotes -This feature enables users to highlight text within their messages, making it stand out.
To utilize block quotes, users need to type the “>” symbol followed by a space before the text they want to highlight.
Inline code-It is Particularly useful for coders.
This format allows users to highlight specific information within the text.
In addition, one can tap and hold their text then choose Bold, Italic or tap the three dots for a drop down to choose strikethrough or monospace.

These new options provide users with more flexibility in structuring their messages, whether it’s creating lists or step-by-step instructions.
On January 17, 2024, WhatsApp introduced new multi-admin feature where one can add up to 16 contacts as admins.
The new feature allowed channel owners to invite anyone from their contacts or followers to become admins, with the admins having the option to choose dismissal.
Furthermore, invited admins could see the owner’s phone number as the invitation would be sent as a chat message from one’s personal account and not the channel.
