Reports of Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba resigning circulated widely on social media for the better part of Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
However, in a statement dated the same day, Roba dismissed the letter as fake and accused the Clerk of the County Assembly of orchestrating it.
“Desperation of the embattled clerk! I am fully in control,” Roba stated.
The fake letter, dated Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and purportedly addressed to the Clerk of the County Assembly, cited personal reasons for Roba’s alleged resignation.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Sections 11 (d) of the County Government Act (Cap 265), Sections 21 (5) (d) of the Elections Act (Cap. 7) and Standing Order No. 5 of the Isiolo County Assembly Standing Orders (2022 Edition), I hereby tender my resignation as the Speaker of Isiolo County Assembly effective from 17th June, 2025 due to personal reasons,” read part of the statement.
Mohamed Roba Dismiss Resignation Claims
Also, in the fake resignation letter, Roba thanked his fellow MCAs and the County Assembly Service Board staff for their support throughout his time as Speaker and Chair of the Board.
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the Honourable Members of the Isiolo County Assembly and the Staff of the Isiolo County Assembly Service Board for the support they have accorded to me during the period I was the Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly and the Chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board and I wish you all the best as you discharge your esteem duties, “read the letter.

The purported resignation of Mohamed Roba comes amid claims of a fallout between him and Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo. Reports indicate that Roba had aligned himself with MCAs to table an impeachment motion in the County Assembly to oust the governor.
However, The High Court in Isiolo on June 16, 2025 issued a conservatory order , halting impeachment proceedings against Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo, pending the hearing and determination of a petition he filed.
Justice Heston Nyaga certified the governor’s application as urgent, stating that the affidavit raised substantive issues warranting judicial intervention.
High Court Blocks Impeachment Proceedings
The court barred the Isiolo County Assembly, its Speaker Mohamed Roba, and Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana from admitting, processing, debating, or considering the impeachment motion tabled on June 10, 2025, until the case is resolved.

The court further directed Godana to provide Guyo with the impeachment notice and supporting documents within 48 hours of being served, with respondents given seven days to file responses and Guyo three days to file a supplementary affidavit. The matter is set for mention on June 30, 2025, for compliance and further directions.
Among the accusations leveled against him by the MCAs, which they say warrant his impeachment, are the following:
- Appointing 36 advisors and 31 chief officers despite Isiolo being among the lowest-funded counties
- Creating instability through questionable contracts and terminations
- Running county affairs from Nairobi instead of Isiolo
- Mismanagement of county development projects
- Failure to meet revenue targets
