Booking a driving test in Kenya is now fully digital. The government’s eCitizen portal allows applicants to register, pay, and confirm their test without visiting the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) offices.
Create or log in to your eCitizen Account
Visit www.ecitizen.go.ke and sign in using your national ID number and password.
First-time users should register by selecting Kenyan Citizen and providing personal details, including a valid email address and phone number.
This account gives access to all NTSA driving services, including licence applications and test bookings.
Apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL)
Before booking a test, you must obtain a Provisional Driving Licence.
From the eCitizen dashboard, open the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) services and select “Driving Licence”.
Click Apply for Provisional Licence, select the vehicle category (light vehicle, motorcycle, or public service vehicle), and then pay the current fee of approximately KSh 750 via M-Pesa or another approved payment method.
The PDL is a mandatory requirement before proceeding to the driving test booking.
Book the Driving Test
Once the PDL is active, return to the NTSA service menu and select Book Driving Test.
Select the vehicle category, your preferred test centre (e.g., Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa), and choose an available date and time.

The system will prompt you to pay the test fee, currently about KSh 1,050, using M-Pesa PayBill or the listed payment options.
Ensure the payment details match your eCitizen account information to avoid delays in confirmation.
Confirm and Prepare for Test Day
After successful payment, download or print the booking slip from your eCitizen account.
On the test day, carry the booking slip, your national ID card, the provisional licence, and any required driving school documents.
Arrive early to familiarise yourself with the centre’s procedures and to avoid last-minute complications.
