The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has shared a 7-day weather forecast from December 24 to December 30.
In a report released on December 23, 2024, Kenya Met specified the areas that will continue to receive rainfall, accompanied by storms.
However, the Meteorological Department stated that rainfall is expected to reduce significantly after Boxing Day, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry conditions.
“Rainfall is expected to reduce significantly after Boxing Day, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry conditions. However, during the start of the week, parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and the Coast may still experience some showers,” the statement read.
Kenya Met Issues 7-Day Weather Forecast
In the five-day weather forecast, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience rains over a few places in the mornings with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and nights.

The specific areas include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
Rainfall in Nairobi and environs
According to the Meteorological department Nairobi and counties in its environs are also expected to experience rainfall. The areas include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi .
“Rains are expected over a few areas during the first half of the forecast period. Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over several places, occasionally reducing to few places during the first half of the forecast period. Mainly dry conditions are expected during the second half of the forecast period,” stated the weather department.

Kenya Met also stated that temperatures are set to rise, with daytime highs exceeding 30°C in the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya, and South-Eastern Lowlands.

The specific areas include Mombasa, Mtwapa, Malindi, Lamu, Msabaha, Voi, Makindu, Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Moyale, Lodwar, and Wajir.
Similarly, cooler nights with temperatures dropping below 10°C are expected in the Central Highlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands.
