Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a warning that ongoing rains across the country are expected to intensify. In a statement on October 3, Kenya Met stated that heavy rainfall is expected from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Heavy rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Western, and Northwestern regions.
Isolated areas may receive between 20mm and 50mm of rain in 24 hours, while some locations could experience very heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm.
Kenya Met cautioned that these intense rains could lead to localized flooding, slippery roads, and potential disruptions to daily activities.
Residents across the country have been advised to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and plan their movements carefully.
“Isolated heavy rainfall of 20mm – 50mm in 24 hours, and in some places very heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm in 24 hours, may occur over parts of these regions,” read the weather forecast.
“These intense rains may lead to localized flooding, slippery roads, and possible disruptions, so stay alert and plan your activities carefully.”
Kenya Met Issues Detailed Weather Forecast
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley — covering counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot — mornings will experience light rains in a few places.
Afternoons are expected to be wetter, with showers and thunderstorms over several areas.
During the night, light showers are expected in a few places.
Maximum temperatures will range between 27°C and 28°C, while minimums will drop to between 11°C and 13°C.
In North-Western Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu, residents have been advised to brace for rainfall in the mornings, with similar conditions expected in the afternoons.
Showers and thunderstorms will occasionally spread to several locations, with nights experiencing light showers.
Daytime temperatures will remain high, ranging between 35°C and 36°C, while minimum temperatures will drop to between 10°C and 11°C.

Highlands of Rift Valley
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley — covering Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi counties — morning weather conditions will range from cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals to light rains in a few places.
Afternoons are expected to bring showers, beginning in a few areas and spreading to several parts of the region.
Nights will also experience showers, ranging from light rainfall in a few places to more widespread showers.
Maximum temperatures will range between 27°C and 29°C, while minimums will be cooler, between 7°C and 10°C.
North-Eastern Regions
In North-Eastern Kenya — covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties — mornings are likely to bring light rains in some places, although sunny intervals will also be experienced.
Afternoons will remain largely dry with sunny spells, though isolated showers may occur in a few areas.
Nights will be partly cloudy, with occasional light showers possible in some places.
Temperatures will remain hot, with highs of 37°C to 38°C during the day and lows of 16°C to 17°C at night.

South-Eastern Lowlands
Mornings will generally remain sunny across most areas. Afternoons will have sunny intervals, though occasional showers may develop in a few places, especially towards the weekend.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with light showers possible in some areas. Daytime temperatures will range from 31°C to 33°C, while minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 11°C and 15°C.
Coastal Strip
In the Coastal region, mornings will be mostly sunny, with a chance of light showers in a few areas.
Afternoons are expected to remain largely sunny throughout the forecast period, while nights will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible in some areas.
Maximum daytime temperatures will range from 31°C to 32°C, with minimum temperatures between 20°C and 22°C.
