The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted generally dry weather across most parts of the country over the next five days, with rainfall expected in parts of the Rift Valley, Nyanza, Western, Central, and Coastal regions.
In its five-day weather forecast covering July 4 to July 8, 2026, the agency said intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are also expected in some parts of the Rift Valley, Central, Western, Southeastern and Northeastern Kenya.
Western and Central Kenya Brace for Rainy Conditions
According to the forecast, counties in Western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin are expected to experience the most rainfall during the period.
The affected counties include Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kericho, Nakuru, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Busia, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nyamira and Siaya.

These areas are expected to experience sunny intervals in the mornings, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms over a few places during the weekend and early next week. Night-time showers are also forecast on several days, with daytime temperatures ranging between 29°C and 31°C.
In the Central region, including Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi, mornings are expected to remain cloudy before giving way to sunny intervals.
The department said isolated rainfall is likely on Saturday, July 4, while showers are expected over a few places on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures are forecast to range from 25°C to 28°C, with minimum temperatures dropping as low as 6°C in some areas.
Rain Chances Increase Midweek for Coast and North Eastern Counties
The department noted that residents in North Eastern Kenya, including Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, and Wajir, should expect mostly sunny weather until Monday, with rainfall developing over a few places from Tuesday into Wednesday. Daytime temperatures will remain high, ranging from 33°C to 36°C.
The Coast region, comprising Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa and the Tana Delta, is expected to remain largely sunny through Monday before showers become more widespread on Tuesday and Wednesday. Coastal temperatures are forecast to range between 30°C and 31°C, with warm nights of 20°C to 23°C.
Meanwhile, South Eastern Kenya, including Kajiado, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita-Taveta and inland parts of Tana River County, is expected to experience mostly sunny conditions throughout the forecast period, with only a chance of showers by Wednesday.
Kenya Met noted that North Western Kenya, covering Samburu and Turkana counties, will remain hot and dry throughout the five-day period, with maximum temperatures reaching 36°C.

Kenya Met Forecast on Cool, Cloudy Weather in Several Regions
Earlier, Kenya Met had forecast cool, cloudy conditions in parts of the country over the coming days, with rainfall in several regions.
In an earlier weather outlook covering June 30 to July 6, 2026, Kenya Met indicated that rain is likely in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Coastal region.
“Rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Coast,” the department stated.
The forecast also points to periods of cool and cloudy weather across sections of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Northeastern Kenya.
At the same time, daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in parts of the Coast and in Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.
In contrast, some areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and regions surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro are likely to experience chilly nights, with temperatures dropping below 10°C.
