The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a rainfall alert in various areas across the country. Kenya Met published the 5-day weather outlook for the period between December 3 and December 9, 2024, in the wake of heavy rains being witnessed in various parts of Kenya including the capital Nairobi and its environs.
According to the weatherman, rains are expected to reduce during the period across many parts. However, KMD said that some areas including the Lake Victoria Basin and South-eastern Lowlands will still experience showers.
“Rainfall Reduction Likely this week! Rainfall is expected to decrease in many regions, but some areas will still experience showers. Expect rainfall in Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley South-eastern Lowlands and Coast,’ Kenya Met said.
“Daytime temperatures above 30°C are likely in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. Chilly nights with temperatures below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley.”

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi counties, morning cloudy weather breaking into sunny intervals is expected across all days.

Afternoon showers over mountainous regions are expected on December 3, while the rest of the days are expected to be sunny during the afternoon.
Partly cloudy nights, on the other hand, are expected across the regions in all the days.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, morning rains and sunny intervals are expected over few places.

This area covers the counties of Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.
Also, showers and thunderstorms are expected both in the afternoon and nights over a few places occasionally spreading to several places.

In North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties), partly cloudy and sunny intervals are expected during the period.
Extended forecast
In the Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County), morning, afternoon and night showers are expected during the period alternating between partly cloudy and sunny intervals in some days.
Additionally, partly cloudy and sunny intervals during the day and night respectively are expected over a few places occasionally spreading to several places in North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties).
In the South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County), morning and afternoon sunny intervals as well as a chance of night showers are expected across several places.
