Weatherman Lists Regions to Experience Rains and Cold Nights Below 10°C This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a seven-day weather forecast for the week starting August 27 to September 2.

According to the forecast, Kenyans across the country should prepare for moderate rainfall and a continuation of the cold season during this period.

Kenya Met in the forecast noted that areas within the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, and South-eastern regions will experience intermittent cold and cloudy conditions.

These counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Taita Taveta Counties.

Others include Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, and Kajiado counties.

“Rainfall is likely at the start of the forecast period in parts of Western Kenya, Central Highlands, Rift Valley, Coast, and North-eastern Kenya,” the weather forecast department announced.

Kenya Met List Regions to Experience Low Temperatures

The weatherman also mentioned that low night-time temperatures (below 10°C) are expected in some parts of the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, and South-Eastern lowlands.

Residents in these areas should prepare for wet conditions and chilly temperatures as the cold season persists.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin will experience the lowest minimum temperatures, with temperatures dropping to between 7°C and 9°C.

Maximum temperatures in these regions will be ranging from 28°C-30°C.

They will experience showers and thunderstorms over few places in the afternoon and showers over several places in the night.

Residents in this region should brace for particularly cold conditions during the week.

The South-Eastern Lowlands will experience minimum temperatures ranging from 9°C to 12°C, while the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, will see temperatures between 10°C and 11°C. 

Meanwhile, the South-Eastern region, which includes Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, will experience cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals in the morning.

The afternoons are expected to be sunny, with partly cloudy skies during the night.

Regions to Experience High Temperatures

High daytime temperatures (above 30°C) are to be experienced in parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.

These counties include Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana and Isiolo Counties.

North-Eastern and North-Western regions will record maximum temperatures ranging from 34 °C to 35 °C while temperatures in the Coast region will range from 31 °C to 32 °C.

Their minimum temperatures will be ranging from 13°C to 16°C for the Coast and 15-16°C for the North-Eastern and North-Western Regions.

These regions will experience sunny intervals with showers over few places. They will be partly cloudy during the night.
