Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has cautioned Nairobi residents on expected heavy rainfall and high flash flood risk during this peak week. On March 4, Kenya Met issued Heavy Rainfall Advisory No. 02/2026, valid until 9 March 7 pm, with peak rainfall intensity expected in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
“Nairobi Metro Update: Heavy Rains Peaking Now! Heavy Rainfall Advisory No. 02/2026 is still active (valid til 9 Mar 7 pm),” the statement partly noted.
Additionally, the advisory issued a reminder to the Nairobians on the peak rainfall intensity earlier forecasted to be from 4-7 March.
“Peak intensity 4th–7th March underway—expect continued showers/thunderstorms across Nairobi & surrounds,” it said.
Kenya Met On March 4-5 Forecasts
The meteorological department also issued a 24-hour forecast for Nairobi and its neighbouring areas as follows;

- Nairobi: Moderate to heavy rainfall in Westlands, Dagoretti, Roysambu, Kibra, Embakasi, Makadara, and Kamukunji, with localised totals of 30–50+ mm.
- Kiambu: Moderate to heavy rains in Gatundu, Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Limuru, and Kikuyu, with 30–60+ mm possible.
- Kajiado: Scattered heavy showers, particularly in northern and western areas.
- Machakos: Isolated heavy rainfall in Masinga, Mavoko, Machakos Town, and Kathiani, with up to 50+ mm, affecting low-lying areas.
Kenya Met further reported a high risk of flash floods in poorly drained urban areas and along rivers with rising water levels.
“Flash flood risk high in poor drainage/urban spots + rising rivers downstream,” the weatherman cautioned.
He advised residents to avoid driving or walking through moving water to prevent accidents and warned people to stay away from trees and windows during storms to reduce the risk of injury from falling debris.

Weatherman Lists All Areas to Experience Rainfall From March 3 to 9
On March 3, KMD forecast continued rainfall across several regions in the country for the next 7 days from March 3 to 9, 2026.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated heavy events, is likely over the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, Western, North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” part of the statement read.
Maximum temperatures during the day may exceed 30°C in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
At night, the minimum temperature is expected to be below 10 degrees in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
