The Northern European and Baltic countries (NB8) have announced to provide Euros 12.5 billion in defense and Euros 918 million to strengthen the Ukraine’s energy resilience in 2026.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during the Ukraine, Northern Europe, and Baltic Countries Summit, appreciated the countries for their readiness to support during the ongoing Ukraine-Russia War.
“We appreciate the readiness of the Nordic and Baltic countries to continue assisting Ukraine: at least EUR 12.5 billion in defense support this year and no less than EUR 918 million to strengthen energy resilience,” Zelensky said.
This will be directed to energy support to ensure the supply of energy resources and to protect and restore energy infrastructure.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, NB8 has provided Ukraine with more than 42 billion euros in military, financial, and humanitarian aid.
Ukraine and European Nations Condemn Russian Aggression
Zelenskyy and the leadership of eight Northern European and Baltic states (NB8) condemned the aggression and called on Russia to halt its hostilities in the ongoing war .
“Putin cannot accept one simple thing: that somewhere people can live differently and enjoy a life that is not the one he prefers,”

The countries also added that they will work to establish an international Compensation Fund and support the formation of a Special Tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Zelenskyy.
In addition, the NB8 countries reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO, highlighting the need for reliable, legally binding security guarantees in any peace agreement.
Ukraine calls for support in obtaining air defense systems
Earlier, Zelenskyy called on countries for help in obtaining air defense systems amid continuing Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
He declared a state of emergency in the power sector, particularly in Kyiv, and revealed that the country was unable to meet about 40 percent of its electricity needs.

Zelensky accused Moscow of deliberately exploiting the harsh winter conditions as part of its war strategy, with overnight temperatures in Kyiv recently dropping to around -20C.
In response, the mayor of the capital, Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, announced that schools in the city would remain closed until February 1, 2026.
Zelenskyy also noted that Russia was preparing new massive attacks and called on countries to provide support, citing a shortage of air defense systems needed to repel Russian attacks.
Russian strikes on energy infrastructure have left the country struggling to cope with power shortages. Zelenskyy said he intends to quickly increase energy imports.
