US President Donald Trump has announced plans to supply Ukraine with weapons amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, which represents a setback for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking during a media briefing, President Trump suggested the potential provision of Tomahawk missiles during Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s upcoming visit.
“I have the president coming in on Friday, and we’ll see what he has to say. He wants weapons. He would like to have Tomahawks. Everyone else wants Tomahawks. We have a lot of Tomahawks,” the statement read.
Trump Hints at Supplying Tomahawk Missiles to Ukraine
At the same time, President Trump discussed the ongoing negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine and expressed dissatisfaction with President Putin’s reluctance to conclude the war.
“I had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but he just doesn’t want to end that war. And I think it’s making him look very bad. He could end it quickly,” said Trump.

The US president also praised Ukraine for managing to resist Russia for the past four years, noting that it has one of the best military forces in the world.
“And I have to tell you, I give credit because who would have thought that Ukraine could have fought Russia for four years to essentially reach a standstill? We’ll be talking about Ukraine,” Trump added.
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, often referred to as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, began on February 24, 2022, when Russian forces launched a multi-front assault on Ukraine from the north (via Belarus), east, and south (including occupied Crimea).
Tensions had escalated in late 2021, with Russian troops massing along Ukraine’s borders (up to 190,000 soldiers). Putin demanded that NATO bar Ukraine from membership and recognize Russian control over Crimea and Donbas, demands that were rejected by the West.

On February 21, 2022, just days before the invasion, Russia recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk “People’s Republics” as independent.
Since taking office in January 2025, Trump has spearheaded US diplomatic initiatives, including a high-profile summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, 2025. This meeting generated initial momentum for negotiations.

In early October, he announced a “20-point peace plan,” stressing security guarantees for Ukraine and economic incentives for Russia, while publicly vowing to resolve the conflict “quickly.”
Following his brokering of a ceasefire in Gaza signed on October 13, 2025, in Egypt, Trump declared Ukraine his next priority, stating in a speech at the Knesset.
“First, we have to get Russia done,” Trump stated.
