Col. (RTD) Dido Ali Raso is a retired military officer and Kenyan politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Saku Constituency in Marsabit County.
Early Life and Background
Dido Ali Raso was born in Marsabit County in the Borana pastoralist community.
His early schooling was in Marsabit, where he successfully completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and secured a placement in secondary school in 1977.
He proceeded to Marsabit Secondary School, where he undertook his O-Level studies from 1978 to 1981, an achievement that was notable at a time when only a small fraction of students from Northern Kenya advanced to higher learning.
In 1982, Raso joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Education, successfully graduating in 1986.

Military career
After graduating from the University of Nairobi in 1986, Ali Raso opted for a career in uniformed service and was commissioned into the Kenya Police Service, beginning his career as a Cadet Officer.
Between 1987 and 1990, Ali Raso served in various junior officer roles, where he was responsible for law enforcement, security operations, and administrative duties across different regions in Northern Kenya.
In the 1990s, Raso rose through the ranks, eventually serving as a District Officer (DO) in several counties, including Mandera, Isiolo, and Wajir.
He pursued advanced military education, earning a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King’s College London in 1999, which equipped him with a deep understanding of global security dynamics and military diplomacy.
He later complemented this with an MBA from the Open University in 2003
From the late 1990s to early 2000s, he was recognized as a senior officer within the security system, respected for his knowledge of pastoralist communities and his ability to manage security operations in volatile areas.

His career in uniform spanned close to two decades, until he transitioned into politics ahead of the 2013 General Election, where he successfully contested for the Saku Constituency parliamentary seat.
Political career
In the 2013 General Election, Raso entered politics, contesting and winning the seat of Member of Parliament for Saku Constituency on a United Republican Party (URP) ticket, under the Jubilee coalition.
He was re-elected in 2017, this time under the Jubilee Party, continuing to represent his constituency in the 12th Parliament.
During his parliamentary tenure, Raso has served on several key committees, including the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security, where he has been actively involved in matters of security, counter-terrorism, and community policing.
In 2022, he successfully retained his seat in the 13th Parliament, this time under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, further strengthening his political influence within the ruling coalition.
