Ambassador Daniel Koikai, the father of the late media personality and reggae enthusiast Mary Njambi Koikai, also known as Jahmby Fyah Mummah, passed away on June 14, 2024, the day his daughter was buried at the Lang’ata Cemetery.
The news of his death was confirmed by sources close to the family who reported that his body was discovered in his house on the morning of June 14.
On Thursday, June 13, Ambassador Koikai delivered an emotional tribute to his late daughter during her memorial service held at the Nairobi Chapel.
In the tribute, the father expressed deep regret for not being fully present in his daughter’s life and admitted to leaving the responsibility of raising Njambi to her mother.
He acknowledged the complicated relationship he had with his daughter, which was characterized by his absence due to his work commitments as a diplomat and asked for Njambi’s forgiveness.
“Dear Njambi, my daughter, the time has come for me to attorn for my acts of omission or commission on your final journey from this world,” he said.

“I ask here in public where I may not have fulfilled your duties as you dad please forgive, and I pray that your soul will Rest in eternal peace till we meet again.”
Daniel Koikai’s Career as a Diplomat
Ambassador Koikai had a distinguished career as a diplomat spanning several decades, with significant postings at the United Nations Office in Geneva and other countries.
His career as a diplomat began in 1983 when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as the Second Secretary in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
During his time at this station, he represented Kenya in various international engagements, including the 1991 Conference on Disarmament, which aimed to control and reduce the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Koikai also represented Kenya at the Ad Hoc Group of Governmental Experts, where he helped Identify and Examine Potential Verification Measures from a Scientific and Technical Standpoint, also known as VEREX.
This group was established in 1991 by the Third Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) to determine whether a state party is developing, producing, stockpiling, acquiring or retaining biological agents or toxins for non-peaceful purposes.
Daniel Koikai: Ambassadorial Postings in Other Countries
In addition to his work at the UN, Ambassador Koikai served as an ambassador to Nigeria and Liberia and held the position of director in the Kenya Southern Sudan Liaison Office.
He was also a holder of the Elder of the Burning Spear Award, presented to him by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018.

Daniel Koikai’s passing Koikai came as a double tragedy for his family, following the death of their daughter Njambi on June 3, 2024, after a long battle with endometriosis.
Family and friends gathered at Lang’ata Cemetery to pay their respects to Njambi, with Ambassador Koikai’s tribute being read by a family member.
The somber mood was palpable as the community mourned the loss of the two beloved individuals.
