Eight children died and two adults were wounded in a domestic shooting in Shreveport early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspect later died after a chase with officers.
The shooting happened just after 6 a.m. CT in a residential area. Ten people were shot in total. The children who died were between 1 and 14 years old. The youngest was 18 months old.
Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance.
Scene Spans Multiple Homes
Bordelon told reporters the crime scene covered two homes and extended to a third nearby property. Police described it as extensive. A young boy at one of the homes jumped from the roof during the shooting to escape, according to local reports.
Two adult women survived after being shot in the head. Police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect. Bordelon said some of the children killed were descendants of the shooter.
The suspect, an adult male, carjacked a vehicle after the shooting and drove into Bossier Parish. Officers chased him and fatally shot him there. Bordelon said the suspect was the only person who fired shots.

“We do believe him to be the only individual that fired gunshots at these locations here,” Bordelon said.
Police’s Action After Children Shooting
Bordelon said police will release the suspect’s name after notifying victims’ next of kin. The investigation continues.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux addressed the community.
“We have a hurting community, we have hurting families, we have hurting police officers, coroners personnel, fire departments, sheriff’s people,” Arceneaux said. “This affects the entire community. So we all mourn with these families.”
The deaths of eight children, including an 18-month-old, mark a major loss in the Shreveport area. The shooting took place in homes on a Sunday morning when families were together.

Local officials said the incident has affected many residents and first responders. Police and city leaders continue to work on the case as families wait for more information about the victims.
As the investigation moves forward, authorities are focused on piecing together the sequence of events across the connected properties near West 79th and Lynnwood streets. The carjacking that followed forced a pursuit into neighboring Bossier Parish, where the confrontation ended.
Community leaders have called for support for the surviving family members and the first responders who handled the scene. No motive has been released beyond the classification as a domestic disturbance, and officials have asked for patience while next-of-kin notifications are completed.
