A new form of political debate about prominent conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and his prospects as a serious candidate in the 2028 presidential election is quickly gaining traction, especially on social media.
This new form of debate concerning Tucker Carlson came about after former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene took to social media and claimed that Tucker Carlson could be facing the current series of criticism and attacks because some people in the political class are concerned that he may one day run for the presidency of the United States, and he may get the job.
On Sunday, March 15, Taylor Greene posted on X, which has since gone viral, claiming that the extent of the criticism and attacks Tucker Carlson has been receiving from various members of the political class is not accidental.
According to Rep. Greene, some people in Washington may be considering Tucker Carlson as a major political threat because of his popularity and prospects in future elections.
“If you’re noticing Tucker Carlson being attacked from literally every direction of the political machine,” Greene wrote, “it’s because they are terrified of him running for president.”
It should also be noted that, as a media personality, Carlson has a huge following, and Green believes the following could be turned into voters. Her comments have also sparked renewed debate among Republicans and his other supporters: Will he ever make the transition from commentator to candidate?

The debate was additionally sparked by Carlson’s release of a video in which he said that people associated with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) accessed his personal text messages that he had sent to people in Iran prior to the United States initiating offensives against that country.
In the video, the renowned commentator also said he believes the people at the Central Intelligence Agency may have been considering referring him to the United States Justice Department for charging him under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) for failing to register.
The potential charge, according to Carlson, came from the conversations he had with people from Iran while he was covering the news.
Carlson also said that he thinks that the ethics of journalism require that he get the two sides of the news or story he was covering.
“What’s the crime?” Carlson said in the video he posted under his X handle over the weekend. “Talking to people in Iran before the war.”
He also added that any attempt to frame it as illegal by contacting sources in Iran would raise major concerns about press freedom.
Carlson has been one of the loudest critics of U.S. military intervention in the Middle East. In many of his programs, he has been vocal about how the U.S. should instead focus on ‘America First.’

His boldness in criticizing U.S. intervention in the Middle East has put him at odds with some of the biggest political figures in the country. These include President Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz was recently quoted criticizing Carlson’s rhetoric. In the quotes, Cruz called Carlson a “demagogue” and said he crossed some lines.
Mixed Reactions.
On social media platforms, particularly on X, some netizens have said that Carlson’s outsider status and willingness to criticize Washington’s political establishment make him attractive for top leadership roles, including the White House.
Just as they perceived Trump in his first trial, many people have been siding with him because he is an outsider, not a politician.
On the other side of the coin, some people have been skeptical about Carlson’s chances. They have been saying that although he may be good at commentating, he cannot duplicate that in leadership roles.
Carlson had often described the ideas about running for the presidency in previous interviews in hypothetical terms.
However, it is worth noting that Greene’s outspoken defense of Carlson’s ideas about running for the presidency has brought them to the attention of conservatives.
