Secret Service agents and local police moved quickly on Saturday to detain a man at Trump National Doral after he triggered a magnetometer during a security screening.
Video from the scene shows an officer in a police vest handcuffing a man, who wore a black T-shirt and shorts.
The two stood near a palm tree beside white event tents on the golf course. The officer turned the man and appeared to secure his hands behind his back as bystanders looked on under a bright Florida sun.
The incident happened at the president’s Florida property, where Trump was holding an event.
Witnesses said the man set off the metal detector as he tried to enter the screened area. Security teams immediately pulled him aside and placed him in cuffs.
A magnetometer scans for metal objects that could pose a threat. Even common items like keys or buckles can cause an alert, but any trigger at a Trump appearance now draws fast action.
Officials have not released the man’s name, age, or the exact cause of the alarm. They also have not said whether he carried any weapons or faced charges.
The arrest comes just days after another man attempted to assassinate Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., on April 25, 2026.
31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, a pump-action shotgun, and three knives, tried to storm past security toward the ballroom where President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other top officials were gathered.
Allen allegedly opened fire during the breach. Secret Service agents quickly evacuated Trump and his party while neutralizing the threat.
Allen was arrested at the scene. No one was killed, though reports noted that at least one Secret Service officer was struck.
Trump has faced multiple security scares since the 2024 campaign. Supporters and allies point to the pattern as evidence that political violence has become too common.
“Keep 47 safe at all costs,” one social media post said alongside the video.
Recently, security at Trump events has grown stricter. Walk-through detectors, bag checks, and extra officers are now standard.
The Doral property, a regular stop for the president, features open grounds and golf carts shuttling between areas, which makes full coverage challenging.
Magnetometer alerts are frequently harmless, but security teams treat every one as serious. The risk of missing a real threat is simply too high. In this case, agents detained the man on-site for further checks.
Trump lauds Secret Service for protecting him
Trump has spoken often about the attempts on his life. He credits the Secret Service and local law enforcement with saving him on more than one occasion. His team has pushed for even tougher measures around him and his family.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made public safety a priority in the state. Local police frequently assist federal agents at large events in South Florida. Saturday’s quick work showed that cooperation in action.
So far, the detained man’s motives remain unclear. Police have not called him a protester in official statements, though early reports did. No group has claimed any connection to him.
Political rallies and appearances by both parties now require layers of security that were once considered excessive.
Metal detectors, drones, and rooftop teams have become normal. Still, incidents like this keep the tension high.
Trump continues to hold public events across the country while his protection detail remains on high alert.
The president’s allies have been saying the attempts have only made them more determined. Critics maintain the heated political climate endangers everyone. Some have tried to paint the assassination attempts on Trump as staged.
The president remained at Doral as no major disruptions followed the detention.
