Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for president ahead of the 2027 General Election, declaring his support for the former ODM Secretary-General.
Speaking to the press on September 15, Owino said he was fully behind Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.
“And I want to tell you, Kenyans, that as Babu Owino, I’m supporting Sifuna for president. A hundred percent.And I want to repeat it again, that I am supporting Sifuna for president,” said Babu.
Babu Owino Declares Support for Sifuna
Owino said he was fully behind Sifuna’s presidential ambitions and repeated his position to underline his commitment.
He pointed to his decision to accompany Sifuna to Kisumu as evidence that his support was not merely a public statement.
“I have been with him. I went with him to Kisumu. Why would I go with him to Kisumu if I were not supporting him, knowing very well that I was vying in Nairobi County as a governor,” he added.
Sifuna has emerged as one of the politicians seeking a prominent role in the opposition’s 2027 strategy. The Nairobi senator has participated in Linda Mwananchi mobilization activities while building a national profile beyond Nairobi.

His supporters have pushed him to seek the presidency, although the wider opposition field remains crowded with several politicians expressing interest in succeeding Ruto.
Babu Owino to Focus on his Nairobi Gubernatorial Campaign
Babu Owino has announced a renewed focus on Nairobi as he seeks to become the city’s governor in the 2027 General Election, while maintaining his support for Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid.
Owino said he would continue supporting the Linda Mwananchi movement and mobilizing Nairobi residents but would reduce his attendance at some of its rallies to concentrate on the capital’s 85 wards.
Owino said he would still attend some Linda Mwananchi rallies, but his participation would depend on his campaign schedule in Nairobi.
“I will still attend Linda Mwananchi rallies. I may not attend all because of now the work that I will do in Nairobi, also mobilising and campaigning for Linda Mwananchi,” he said.
The lawmaker also appealed to Nairobi residents to elect him governor, saying he believes he is suited for the position and would deliver services to residents.

The Kenya Times has fact-checked the document and established that Gazette Notice No. 9787, published on June 26, 2026, does not concern The Mwananchi Party.
Marked Gazette Notice No. 9787, the document proposed changes to the party constitution and officials.
It lists Prof. Kivutha Kibwana as the former Party Patron and James Aggrey Orengo as the current Party Patron.
The notice also lists Bilcash Chery Dibogo as the former Party Leader and Paul Ongili Owino, popularly known as Babu Owino, as the current Party Leader.
Other leadership positions, including Deputy Party Leader, National Chairperson, National Deputy Chairperson and Secretary General, are also listed as having changes.
The notice was issued under the Political Parties Act to notify the public of intended changes to the particulars of Muungano Party.
According to the notice, Muungano Party intended to change its party constitution and officials.
The notice listed changes involving several senior positions within the party. Kivutha Kibwana is listed under the position of Party Patron.
