Social media users have flocked to other platforms to express their frustration after TikTok experienced a major outage on Tuesday, September 24, evening.
The video sharing app, which has over 1 billion monthly active users globally, went down, leaving many unable to like videos, view profiles, go live, or comment on videos. This has left some wondering if they had been blocked.
Users across the country reported facing challenges with the app encountering error messages such as “Something Went Wrong” when attempting to load profiles or posts.
At the same time, another user @Theblondemom stated, “Anyone else’s tiktok app not working? I can see the For You Page (FYP), but my page isn’t loading for some reason well not properly.”
By the time of publishing, TikTok or its parent company, ByteDance Ltd had yet to issues a statement on the same.

TikTok to Launch Search Ads Campaign
The outage comes after TikTok announced on Tuesday the launch of the “TikTok Search Ads Campaign,” a new keyword-based search solution allowing brands to control how their content appears in search results.
While the platform already includes ads on its search results page, this new feature gives brands more control over their ad placements.
Given TikTok’s strong influence on users’ shopping behavior, the campaign offers businesses a valuable way to engage consumers who are actively searching for specific content.
This move presents a challenge to Google’s search ads business, as younger users increasingly turn to social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram for their searches. Google has acknowledged this shift, especially among younger demographics.
TikTok’s research reveals that 57% of its users engage with the app’s search functionality, with 23% searching for something within 30 seconds of opening the app.
TikTok Music on its Way Out
Additionally, the entertainment giant announced that it plans to shut down its music streaming service, TikTok Music, at the end of November.
The company has cautioned users that they should migrate all their playlists to other streaming platforms by October 28 and request refunds by November 28, 2024.

“We are sorry to inform you that TikTok Music will be closing on 28 November 2024,” a notice on TikTok Music’s website reads.
“After this date, access to TikTok Music, including login, subscriptions, and all other functionalities, will no longer be available.”
The app has become a global sensation, offering 15 to 60-second clips in genres ranging from comedy to baking and educational content.
With over one billion active users worldwide, the app has surpassed popular platforms like Snapchat and Twitter in user engagement.
TikTok’s appeal lies in its popularity with younger audiences, particularly those aged 16-24, who make up 41% of its creators.
The platform fosters a dynamic relationship between creators and their audiences, with creators often engaging directly with fans, breaking the traditional barrier between celebrities and their followers.
