Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence on the wave of abductions witnessed in the country.
Speaking in a press conference at his Mathira home in Nyeri County, Gachagua said the current wave of abduction is a ploy by the government to intimidate Kenyans into silence.
“This Government’s Strategy of trying to scare Kenyans into silence while they go ahead and lie, loot and destroy our nation cannot and will not hold,” the former Deputy President asserted.
He further emphasized that this situation illustrates how disconnected the Kenya Kwanza administration has become from the reality facing the country today.
Gachagua condemns the ongoing abductions
At the same time, Gachagua took the opportunity to address President William Ruto regarding the ongoing abductions, stating that he opposed them when he served as his deputy. He expressed that he faced resistance from the president concerning his stance.
“I want to speak directly to President William Ruto on this matter. He knows that I strongly opposed these kinds of ideas and took every opportunity available to speak out against those who believed that force is an appropriate strategy for managing Kenyans.
I have made my position known privately many times and once or twice I even spoke publicly,” Gachagua stated.
He further criticized the head of state for consistently denying the existence of ongoing abductions in the country, even though he is aware that these acts are happening under his watch.
Gachagua emphasized that the evidence of these abductions is undeniable, with nearly 100 Kenyans reportedly abducted, many of whom remain unaccounted for.
He also noted that Kenya’s own security chiefs have confirmed the occurrence of these abductions.

Additionally, he accused the government of handing over a political opposition leader from neighboring Uganda, who had been abducted, to Ugandan authorities.
The former DP also stated that the youth and the church have taken the role of oversight since there is no opposition.
“When you absorb the opposition and there is nobody to hold you accountable, when you capture Parliament and other institutions of oversight, since nature abhors a vacuum, other formations will emerge to hold you accountable. That is how the church and young Kenyans have emerged,” the former DP said.
