Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that the Kenya Kwanza government has sold all the land belonging to prisons.
Speaking on February 27, Gachagua said President William Ruto is selling prison lands through the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).

Gachagua claimed that Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and his Lands counterpart Alice Wahome have prepared a cabinet memo aimed at selling to investors under the guise of the AHP.
“If you check the prison land here in Nairobi West, it is worth a trillion and people are given to build houses. Those houses are built by money deducted from the payslips and sold back to you. So, it is not as if they are giving out the land for free. Ruto and his team, have sold all prison lands across the country and a cabinet memo had been prepared,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua asked Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators to stand against such a move.
He claims that the government has a scheme to sell the land and move the prisons to other places.

Additionally, Gachagua criticized Ruto stating that such a move is ill informed and will cost the taxpayers even more.
“MPs must stand up, we cannot agree. How do we give public land to investors without consideration. It is a scheme to sell all public lands, and the prisons will be located elsewhere at another cost,” Gachagua said.
