The People’s Liberation Party leader, Martha Karua, has revealed that it is not a must for her to vie for the presidency in 2027.
Speaking during the official launch of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) on Thursday, February 27, Martha Karua revealed that the task of unseating President William Ruto cannot be accomplished by one person or one political party alone.

She stressed that this is a collective effort that requires the support of all people of goodwill.
“You may wonder how we are going to do it; I have expressed my wish to run for president, as have my twin brother Kalonzo Musyoka, Morara Kebaso, and many others,” Karua said.

However, she clarified that this does not mean people should not pursue their dreams. Instead, she emphasized that the unity of Kenya must come first, with the nation’s interest taking precedence over individual ambitions.
“I may have said that I don’t want to be a deputy, but that doesn’t mean I won’t support another candidate. I don’t have to be on that ticket, but I will commit 100 percent if I am not the candidate, to help deliver victory to Kenyans,” she added.

Karua went on to stress the need for liberation from economic oppression and called on all candidates to subordinate their personal interests for the sake of Kenyans.
“Whoever gets selected as a candidate through a transparent method that we will devise, we will all queue behind that person,” she said.
Earlier, in an interview with Citizen TV, Karua expressed her readiness to form an alliance with any political leader ahead of the 2027 general election.
She emphasized that this includes former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with whom she worked closely during the 2022 general election.

However, Karua clarified that she is not open to working with him as a running mate this time around, suggesting instead that Odinga should consider supporting her bid for the presidency.
“Am I ready to work with Raila Odinga again? Yes, but not backing him, perhaps him backing me. Okay, but I’m ready to work not just with Raila, but with any Kenyan because we belong to the same country. But so long as we all agree to pull to the side of redeeming this country, transforming it to serve Kenyans, not a few,” Karua said.
“We want to redeem this country and transform it to serve Kenyans not a few.”
