National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee John Mbadi Ng’ong’o has declared her Net Worth.
Speaking before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Saturday, August 3, John Mbadi announced that he has amassed Ksh 380 million.
Mbadi said his assets are worth Ksh 437 million and liabilities of Ksh 57 million bringing his Net worth to Ksh 380 million.
“Mr. Speaker my net worth stands at Ksh 380 million. I have mortgage loan with Parliamentary Service Commission, Sacco loan and a loan from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB),” he said.
John Mbadi Education
Mbadi began his formal education at Ligongo Primary School, where he completed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) between 1979 and 1986.
Following this, he attended Kokuro Boys Secondary School in Awendo, Homabay County from 1987 to 1990, achieving the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
His higher education journey took him to the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from 1992 to 1996.
He furthered his expertise with a Certified Public Accountants qualification from the same institution, completed between 1998 and 1999.
John Mbadi holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Nairobi, obtained from 2004 to 2007.

Professional Career
John Mbadi, the man poised to take charge of the National Treasury, has 28 years of experience in the fields of finance, leadership and politics.
Before his nomination to the Cabinet on July 24, John Mbadi, was the chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and a nominated Member of Parliament for Suba Constituency.
From 1996 to 1999, he worked as an Assistant Accountant at the Student Welfare Authority. He then advanced to the role of Accountant at the University of Nairobi, where he served from 1999 to 2003.
Following this, he held the position of Senior Accountant at the University of Nairobi from 2003 to 2005. He was responsible for Preparation of the final accounts, final audits and cash flow management for the university
In 2004, John transitioned to the role of a Regional Finance Director for International Humanitarian Organization Medair East Africa with Headquarter in Switzerland a position he held until 2008.
He was responsible for supervising the financial departments for the region in Humanitarian South Sudan, Uganda, Somali and Kenya.
Entry into Politics
John Mbadi first joined Parliament when he was elected to represent the Gwassi Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in 2008 and served until 2013.
During this period, he also held the role of Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister from 2012 to 2013.
From 2013 to 2017, Mbadi represented Suba Constituency in the National Assembly.
He continued his committee work from 2013 to 2022 as a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Budget and Appropriations Committee.
In 2017, he transitioned to represent Suba South Constituency and took on the role of Leader of the Minority Party, which he held for five years.

In 2022, Mbadi declared his intention to vie for the Homa Bay governor seat. He however withdrew from the race to focus on supporting Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.
Parliamentary Committees
John Mbadi has actively contributed to several parliamentary committees throughout his career.
From 2008 to 2012, he was a member of both the Public Investments Committee and the Budget Committee.
In 2013, Mbadi continued his service on the Public Accounts Committee and the Budget & Appropriations Committee until 2017.
The treasury CS nominee also served on the House Business Committee as the Leader of the Minority Party and a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee from 2017 to 2024.
He has also served as the chair of the Public Accounts Committee, which is responsible for holding to account ministries, departments and agencies.
Professional Bodies
John Mbadi is a member of several professional organizations, including the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK), the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK), the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitration. His notable honors include the CBS and EGH awards.
In terms of skills, John is proficient in planning, budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, and economics.
He also excels in community development, effective communication, and interpersonal skills, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational qualities. His areas of interest include politics, reading, and soccer.
