Porro Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Patrick Leerte has passed away at the Samburu County Referral Hospital.
Samburu County Assembly Clerk Fred Lenapeer confirmed in an internal memo dated December 28, 2025, that the MCA died on Sunday morning after a short illness. The MCA was receiving treatment at the Hospital before his death.
Patrick Lerte was a member of Kenya Kwanza and has been serving as Porro Ward MCA under Amani National Congress (ANC) since 2022.
The late Patrick has been serving as Samburu County Chairperson of the County Assembly Committee on Lands and Physical Planning.
Patrick Leerte Mourned
Samburu leaders, including the County’s governor, have mourned Lerte.

In a statement, Samburu County Governor Jonathan Lati Lelelit, stated, “It is with profound shock that I have received the sad news of the passing on of Hon. Patrick Leerte, MCA, Poro Ward. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the great people of Poro Ward. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Leerte has been described as a leader who stood firm for the betterment of Samburu, never intimidated by power, and unwavering in his commitment to defend the rights and interests of his electorate.
“It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the passing of Hon. Patrick Leerte, a dear friend, a fearless defender of justice, and a devoted servant of the people,” the Senator wrote.

Elbarta Ward MCA Leitoro Jeremiah has also mourned the passing of Leerte, stating, “On behalf of my family and the people of Elbarta, I convey our deepest condolences to the people of Porro Ward following the sad passing of MCA Hon. Patrick Leerte. We mourn with you during this painful time and stand in solidarity with his family, friends, and the entire Porro community. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace, and may the soul of Hon. Patrick Leerte rest in eternal peace.”
Kenyans, especially those from Porro ward, have also shared their condolences, describing him as a hero.
His death now leaves the position vacant, at a time when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is preparing to hold by-elections in early 2026 to fill vacant seats.
In a statement on December 21, the Electoral Commission announced that it will hold another round of mini-polls on February 26, 2026, to fill vacant seats for ward representatives in the Malava and Mbeere North constituencies.
