Standard Group PLC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marion Gathoga-Mwangi has announced her planned exit from the company due to personal reasons.

In a heartfelt message to employees, she confirmed that although she has not officially stepped down, the transition process has already begun.

Further, she noted that the message she shared may be the last newsletter she writes as CEO.

“Personal circumstances that I cannot overlook have informed my decision on my future with the company. The transition has begun, and this may be the last newsletter I write to you,” she stated.

Marion Gathoga Mwangi’s Journey at Standard Group

Gathoga-Mwangi joined Standard Group in the third quarter of 2023 and has led the media house through what she described as a transformative and challenging season.

In her message, she expressed deep gratitude to the staff and leadership team for their support and dedication, especially over the past two months, which she described as a period of significant crossroads.

Additionally, the CEO acknowledged the media industry’s fast-changing landscape and praised the Standard Group staff for their resilience and commitment in the face of uncertainty and disruption.

She said that their efforts had been vital in keeping the organization on its feet and helping redefine how the company operates internally.

“The media Industry is evolving at breakneck speed, and we must embrace it lest we be swept aside. The disruptions, the uncertainty, the difficult decisions, we have faced them all.

“Yet, through this, the entire Standard Group PLC staff has remained steadfast, adapting with courage and resilience, embracing change, and pushing ahead, determined to ensure the continuity and success of our institution,” she added.

One of the major changes she highlighted is the realignment of the company’s structure to match its long-term strategy.

She said the restructuring was necessary to ensure the business continues to deliver value to all stakeholders in a fast-changing media environment.

Also, the CEO expressed gratitude to the leadership team for their strong support in making this possible.

Milestones She Has Achieved So Far

Gathoga-Mwangi pointed to several key milestones achieved during her time as CEO. She noted the completion of the company’s Strategic Plan, which is designed to move the organisation into a business-unusual mode with a focus on long-term sustainability.

She also mentioned the progress made in implementing a Rights Issue, which she described as a critical step in stabilising the business during difficult times.

Another major move under her leadership was the reduction of operational costs. She stated that it was a tough but necessary decision made with the company’s future in mind.

In addition, she introduced a Continuous Improvement matrix aimed at improving efficiency across the organisation.

Also, she spoke proudly about forming a capable leadership team, now led by Chaacha Mwita, which she believes is well-positioned to carry forward the company’s mission with purpose and clarity.

“As I reflect on my tenure since joining the group towards the third quarter of last year, I am grateful for what we have been able to achieve together.

“I appreciate the great team spirit with which-together-we have been able to stabilise the Standard Group PLC ship,” added the CEO.

She encouraged all employees to continue supporting each other and the leadership team to keep Standard Group strong and ready for the future.
