The President of the United States (U.S), Donald Trump, plans to close 30 embassies and consulates in various countries across the world.
According to a proposal obtained by CNN, Trump’s administration will transfer the functions of the closed embassies to the neighboring countries.

CNN reports that the U.S. government plans to close 10 embassies and 17 consulates across the globe, many of which are in Europe and Africa.
In Africa, Trump’s administration is proposing to close embassies in Juba, the Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Lesotho, the Central African Republic, and The Gambia.

Other embassies include Malta and Luxembourg.
The list also includes five consulates in France, two in Germany, two in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one in the United Kingdom, one in South Africa, and one in South Korea.

It also proposes reducing the presence at U.S. diplomatic missions in Somalia and Iraq.
The two countries are central to U.S. counterterrorism efforts, and ‘resizing’ other diplomatic outposts.

“Reductions to the footprint in Iraq are a long time coming but ‘drastic’ measures at Erbil could truly jeopardize the lives of countless Christians and Yazidis,” one former US Agency for International Development (USAID) official is quoted by The Post.

Other Locations & DOGE
Other locations in Japan and Canada may also be restructured to reduce their footprints, together with ’embassies in exile’ for Yemen, based in Saudi Arabia, and for Venezuela, based in Colombia.
The proposal is part of the efforts by Elon Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency to reduce government spending.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce have not publicly endorsed the “leaked” document declined to comment directly on the leaked document.
