Do you know DJ Spider? Well, the death of Kenya’s political enigma Raila Odinga on 15 October 2025 shocked Kenya to the core. But before the dust could settle in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, massive disruption and reorganization followed. Odinga was known for many things, including his entertaining, animated political rallies laced with unmatched mixes and playlists. Unknown to millions of Kenyans, behind the juicy and witty moments was DJ Spider, the official rally DJ whose real name is Fredrick Muyangu.

From Raila’s decks to Sifuna’s rallies

Popularly known as DJ Spider Freddy, he came to the limelight in the recent past when he aligned with the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi.

The DJ dumped Oburu Oginga’s Linda Ground faction when ODM kicked out the firebrand Senator. Clearly, ODM was not only orphaned by the loss of Jakom, but the movement was also left DJ-less. The chief crowd-hyper moved on swiftly.

“I had been away from Linda Ground for a long time. I didn’t play at the Homa Bay rallies or elsewhere. It suddenly became an issue after I joined Edwin Sifuna in Busia. I’m fully affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi team. I’m 100% Sifunated!,” explained DJ Spider in a media interview in February 2026.

Fredrick Muyangu had won Raila’s favor, with the former Premier praising him in public on several occasions. He traversed Nairobi with the Azimio leader during street protests, particularly in late 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The “Uninyunyizie Maji” moment that made DJ Spider famous

He was part of the revolution DNA that Baba espoused. Without fear and with enviable creativity, he turned moments of excessive use of police force into memories engraved in the hearts of millions of Kenyans who believed that indeed Raila was the People’s President.

When trigger-happy officers shot at convoys and deployed water cannons or tear gas, DJ Spider would pull a surprise on them and drop something like “Uninyunyizie Maji,” a hit by the Kongowea Catholic Choir. And these would be the light scars that Raila’s supporters would carry with them.

He has emerged as the invisible power during Linda Mwananchi’s rallies across the country. He drops bangers that resonate with charged crowds, creating electrifying moments that leave Sifuna’s supporters thirsting for more.

His mixes include anthems, vernacular hits, gospel, and oldies. Everything his fingers touch on the decks goes viral.  He has a social media presence on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, where he connects with his fans.

DJ Spider impresses during Linda Mwananchi rally at Jacaranda Grounds

On September 13, 2026, when Linda Mwananchi stormed the city, snaking through streets to Jogoo Road and finally at the famous Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East, DJ Spider understood the assignment beforehand, did the homework, and woke up armed with a marking scheme. He delivered.

For more than five hours on the procession from All Saints Cathedral to Jacaranda Grounds, DJ Spider captured every moment, as Linda Mwananchi’s slogans rented the air and as leaders injected their opponents with Wantam venom.

When the man of the moment took to the podium, he commended the Sifunated DJ.

“Huyo ni DJ Spider, alikua DJ wa Baba na tulihama naye,” said Edwin Sifuna before he addressed the sea of humanity that had patiently waited the whole day.

Kenyans on social media also took note of the DJ’s A-game.

“Hats off to DJ Spider for playing that Dawa ya Moto ni Moto song. Specifically that bit, “Tuko on fire na hawa watu wamekuja kuzima moto,” said Henix Obuchunju on X.

For Willie Oeba, DJ Spider understands the power of music.

“Music is the language of the heart, and DJ Spider understands this too freaking well,” noted Oeba.

And before sunset, Nairobi Nomad had declared Freddy the best in the country.

“DJ Spider is the best DJ in Kenya right now. This man has been mixing since morning and hasn’t lost his composure once. Smooth mixes, clean transitions, and he’s doing all this from a moving car,” Nairobi Nomad published on X.
