United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Chairperson Cecily Mbarire has revealed plans to oust impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the party leadership.
While addressing the press at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) on Friday November 1, Mabarire said the UDA National Executive Committee will meet next week to replace Gachagua.
“We will be holding a National Executive Committee probably as early as Monday to bring in Kindiki as the new Deputy Party Leader,” Mbarire.
This announcement comes just days after the UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar revealed plans to remove Rigathi Gachagua from the party leadership.
Mbarire vows to replace Gachagua following similar pledge by Omar
On Tuesday, October 29, the former Mombasa Senator stated that the party would soon unveil Deputy President-designate Kithure Kindiki as its new deputy party leader, once the ongoing court cases regarding Gachagua’s impeachment are resolved.
He also emphasized that the party would not accept Gachagua as its deputy party leader, citing the deteriorating relationship he has had with the party as a result of his actions that contradict its ideals and hinder its national development agenda.

“This is purely a political issue. No court can appoint a leader. The relationship has already become strained, and he can no longer serve as the deputy party leader.
We were progressing as a party and had pledged to unite Kenyans regardless of their ethnicity. However, he is promoting ethnic division, which is why he had to be removed,” Mr. Omar stated while in Nairobi.
The UDA Secretary-General had further stated that the party’s top organ will announce Mr. Gachagua’s replacement immediately after the courts conclude the ongoing cases.
Omar warns UDA leaders aligned to Impeached Deputy President
“We respect the courts as a party and what we are waiting for is the conclusion of this process so that we can have the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to endorse Professor Kithure Kindiki as the party leader,” Omar said.
At the same time, the former Mombasa Senator cautioned that leaders aligned with the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua risk being removed from their positions in the parliamentary group if they continue to disregard the party’s stance.

“We are not vindictive as a party. They will continue to serve in their roles, but there is certainly a need for alignment,” Omar stated.
He added that the members of the parliamentary committees will make their own decisions regarding whether they should continue in their leadership roles. If they determine that they no longer have confidence in those leaders, then that will be the end of it.
