United Democratic Alliance candidate David Ndakwa has won the Malava parliamentary by-election held on November 27, 2025. Ndakwa won with 21,564 votes, followed closely by DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako with 20,210 votes.
Ndakwa defeated five other aspirants to clinch the Malava parliamentary seat, including DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, Kenya Moja Movement Party’s Wilberforce Tuvei, Party of Democratic Unity (PDU) candidate George Ngaira, Entrust Pioneer Party (EPP) candidate Jason Shivakale, and National Ordinary People Empowerment Union (NOPEU) candidate, Benjamin Nalwa.
The seat was declared vacant after the death of Moses Malulu Injendi in February 2025.
Tension and Chaos Grip Malava By-Election
The Malava by-elections were marred by chaos, leading to several arrests as tensions flared. Seth Panyako and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya were allegedly arrested, prompting angry residents in Kitale Town to block major roads in protest.
In Muhonje, tensions ran high and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa’s Toyota Land Cruiser V8 was reportedly attacked and set on fire.
DAP-K alleged that “goons,” terrorized their candidate and his agents throughout the night. The party further claimed that the attacks occurred under the supervision of police officers.
“Goons under police supervision terrorized him the whole night, injured our agents, destroyed property and now they want to intimidate him. We will not allow,” DAP-K stated.
However, long queues were observed at polling stations across the country despite the tense moments.

Political Heavy Weight Behind His David Ndakwa Campaign
The seat was highly contested, with political figures showcasing their influence.
During the campaigns, the Head of State deployed key political heavyweights to rally support, including his aide, Farouk Kibet; National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula; and Cabinet Secretary for the Prime Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, all with strong followings in Western Kenya.
However, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya demonstrated equal determination, campaigning aggressively for the DAP-K candidate, Seth Panyako.
Natembeya positioned himself as the face of a new political order in Western Kenya, seeking to replace the long-standing dominance of Mudavadi and Wetang’ula.

Political Career
Ndakwa entered politics and showed his political prowess by winning his first election in the August 2017 general elections.
He was re-elected in 2022 on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket, serving as Minority Leader in the Kakamega County Assembly during both terms, a position he held until late September 2025, when he resigned to focus on his campaign as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Malava parliamentary by-election on November 27, 2025.
He triumphantly won the nominations by garnering 6,477 votes against former MP’s son, Ryan Injendi, who got 3,783 votes.
