The government has announced the rollout of the second phase of the NYOTA Project’s mandatory business classroom skills training.
Training forms a key requirement for beneficiaries before the disbursement of the second tranche of start-up capital valued at Ksh 25,000.
In a press statement dated April 15, the government stated that the program continues to focus on structured capacity building, combining mentorship, practical business exposure, and formal training to support youth-led enterprises in the country.
The announcement follows the completion of nationwide mentorship program aimed at strengthening early-stage entrepreneurs across Kenya.
Government Sets Mandatory NYOTA training date
The second phase of the NYOTA Project will consist of classroom-based business skills training conducted at the constituency level.

Training is designed to enhance beneficiaries’ capacity to grow and sustain their enterprises, building on lessons learned during mentorship.
According to the announcement, training will begin on 20th April 2026 across the country, with beneficiaries receiving official invitations through designated communication channels.
“The second mandatory classroom-based business skills training has been scheduled to commence on 20th April 2026 across the country. The training will address skill gaps identified during mentorship and enhance beneficiaries’ ability to grow their businesses,” the statement read.
The government also clarified that attendance is not optional, noting that full participation is required to access further funding and that only those who participated in the initial mentorship program will be eligible to attend
“The business skills training will be conducted at the constituency level, across the country, and the beneficiaries will receive invitations to the training through the official communication channels. Only beneficiaries who participated in the first mentorship program will be eligible for the second classroom business skills training,” read part of the statement.
Nationwide Mentorship Program Concludes Across 1,450 Wards
According to the statement, the first mentorship program under the NYOTA Project was successfully concluded on 8th April 2026, reaching beneficiaries in all 1,450 wards across the country.

The exercise was implemented through a large-scale network of over 5,500 mentors who provided hands-on support to beneficiaries.
Mentorship activities during the first training included site visits, guided business discussions, experience sharing sessions, and peer-to-peer learning.
The program recorded high participation, with the government noting that 97% of beneficiaries who received the first tranche of start-up capital participated in the exercise.
“Over 5,500 mentors were engaged to support the beneficiaries during the handholding exercise, which included site visits, guided business talks, experience sharing and cross-peer mentorship. 97% of beneficiaries who received the first tranche of start-up capital participated in the mentorship program, demonstrating high entrepreneurial intent among the beneficiaries,” read part of the statement.
Findings from the first training reveal that 99% of participating beneficiaries have already established their businesses, while the remaining are still in the process of starting operations.
The program also revealed that 84% of the beneficiaries are first-time entrepreneurs with less than one year of business experience.
