Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) licensing is a cornerstone of professional environmental consultancy in Kenya, ensuring that experts meet the standards set by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

Whether you’re a Lead Expert, Associate Expert, or part of a registered Firm of Experts, renewing your EIA license annually is a regulatory requirement.

This article provides a detailed guide based on the latest procedures and regulations.

Step-by-Step Renewal Process

  1. Confirm Your EIA License Eligibility

Before initiating the renewal of your Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) license, it’s essential to verify that you meet the basic eligibility criteria set by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

Before initiating the renewal process, ensure you are:

  • A registered EIA/EA expert with NEMA.
  • Holding a valid license from the previous year.
  • Have no pending disciplinary issues or unresolved compliance matters with NEMA.
  • Be prepared to submit updated professional documents, including academic certificates, a current CV (for individuals) or a firm profile (for companies), and proof of payment for the renewal fee.
  1. Prepare Your Documents

Once you’ve confirmed your eligibility, the next step is to gather all the necessary documents required for the renewal of your EIA license.

You’ll need:

  • A copy of your previous license or registration certificate.
  • Academic qualifications and professional CV (for individuals).
  • Firm profile (for companies).
  • Proof of payment for renewal fees.

Renewal Fees:

  • Lead Expert: Ksh5,000 (Citizen) / Ksh15,000 (non-Citizen)
  • Associate Expert: Ksh3,000 (Citizen) / Ksh9,000 (non-Citizen)
  • Firm of Experts: Ksh20,000 (Citizen) / Ksh60,000 (non-Citizen)

Ensure all documents are clear, legible, and up-to-date. Incomplete or outdated submissions may delay the processing of your renewal and result in rejection.

  1. Access the NEMA Licensing Portal

With your documents in order, the next step is to initiate the renewal process through the official NEMA Licensing Portal.

To begin:

Visit the Portal
Go to https://licensing.nema.go.ke using a secure browser.
