The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather update for the period between March 3 and March 9, 2026. According to Kenya Met, several areas across the country are expected to experience increased rainfall intensity.
“Rainfall is expected to increase in intensity and spread across several parts of the country during the period,” read the Kenya Met statement.
Heavy rainfall is expected across some regions, with isolated heavy downpours throughout the week.
Regions with Expected Rainfall
Areas that will be experiencing rainfall during this period include the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, Western, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
A maximum temperature above 30 degrees is expected during the day in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
At night, temperatures below 10 degrees will be expected in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Earlier Rainfall Warning by the Kenya Met
Earlier, the weatherman had issued a 24-hour rainfall advisory for parts of the Nairobi metropolis on March 2, 2026, and continued rainfall on March 3, 2026.
According to the forecast, the areas were to expect moderate rainfall with localized heavy rainfall in Westlands and the neighboring areas.
Residents in areas with poor drainage and low-lying areas were advised they may experience waterlogging during the downpour.
Additionally, residents in downstream areas have been cautioned that floods might occur even without experiencing heavy rain.

Safety Warning and Preparedness Measures
The meteorological department has issued several safety measures to residents in the affected areas.
In preparing for the rainfall, Kenyans have been asked to remain alert for flash floods and sudden water accumulation on roads and in residential areas.
Additionally, the public has been urged to avoid driving through flooded roads or walking along paths with moving water.
The weather department also requested the public to avoid open fields during storms to avoid rainfall-related accidents.
Citizens have been additionally asked to ensure that they stay informed about the weather changes to be able to take necessary precautions during the rainy season.
