Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has announced that she has involved investigative agencies to probe some top county officials accused of corruption.
This announcement by Kananu comes a few days after she reshuffled the executive, upon which she reported to have unveiled corrupt dealings within some key county departments.
Moreover, among the officials affected by the reshuffles were, Chief Officers in Finance, Health, disaster management and trade dockets.
“I have directed the commencement of investigations into the persons involved and we are currently cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure all those involved are brought to book and punished accordingly,” she stated.
Similarly, the Nairobi governor reshuffled some of the staff on Tuesday, July, 5, saying it is part of the measures to improve service delivery in the county.
“Since the reshuffle was implemented, numerous cases of suspicious supplies and accounts have been exposed confirming my worst fears of systemic malpractices within sections of the county administration,” she stated.
In the reshuffles the Finance Chief Officer Mohamed Sahal was moved to the health docket, whereas Joseph Gathiaka, who was the acting Head of County Treasury, took over the Finance Chief Officer position.
Moreover, Brian Kisali will serve as the acting Chief Officer in the Disaster Management docket while Elizabeth Njau will be the acting Chief Officer Trade, Commerce and Industrialization.
Nonetheless, a while after the county executive restructuring, Finance CEC Allan Igambi wrote a letter to the Director of Banking Division, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) opposing the move by Kananu. He wrote that such change would lead to logistical and administrative problems.
