The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial closure of Mombasa Road which is set to affect traffic on the busy highway.
KeNHA in a statement on Friday, May 31, 2024, announced the closure which is set to affect both Nairobi and Mombasa bound lanes of the Road at the Imaara Mall section.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wish to notify the Public that there will be a partial closure of Mombasa (A8) Road, Nairobi bound lanes at Imaara Mall,” read part of the statement.
According to the Authority, the closure is scheduled to happen from Friday May 31, 2024, at 8:00PM to Monday June 3, 2024, at 06:00 AM.

At the same time, KeNHA noted that the closure of the same road section on the Mombasa bound lanes will happen on Friday June 7, 2024, from 8:00 pm to Monday June 10, 2024, at 06:00 pm.
KeNHA Announces Partial Closure of Mombasa Road
The Authority revealed that the planned closure will allow the installation of culverts and reinstatement works at these sections.

Further motorists were advised to follow traffic regulations listed by KeNHA to ensure seamless flow of traffic despite the scheduled closure.
All motorists using the road at the said time were first advised to use the two through lanes and approach the affected sections with caution.
Also, the authority urged all motorists to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by the traffic Police and Marshalls.
“The Authority remains committed to ensure seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity,” added KeNHA.

The closure comes days after the Authority announced the closure of another major road within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
Temporary closure of roads
Both KeNHA and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) have been closing sections of roads within Nairobi County in recent days for renovation and maintenance works.
KeNHA had in a notice on March 23 announced the temporary closure of Nyerere Road near the University of Nairobi roundabout which commenced on Friday, May 24, while also providing a traffic movement advisory for motorists
According to the Highways Authority, the traffic disruption was to allow for highway maintenance works along the section.
On the other hand, KURA had also announced the closure of Valley Road while cautioning motorists within Nairobi County of a three-day traffic disruption which affected three sections along the road.
“We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Valley Road, Nairobi as from 6 AM Saturday, 18th May till 6 PM Monday 20th May 2024,” read part of the notice.
The disruption was to allow the contractor on site to improve sections of the road.
