A Kenyan man, identified as John Mwangi, who was accused of brutally murdering his wife in Killeen, Texas in the US has been arrested and held at Bell County jail.
Mwangi, 42, is the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, February 21.

He has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Bell County Jail without bond.
According to a release from the Killeen Police Department, Mwangi was found at Fort Cavazos after officers conducted a welfare check at his home in Killeen.

Upon entry into the house, the authorities found his spouse with multiple gunshot wounds but was later pronounced dead.
“On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:16 p.m., Killeen Police officers responded to a welfare check at a residence located in the 3300 block of Lakecrest Drive,” read the police report.
“Upon the officers’ arrival, they found a 37-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at 9:29 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James.”

According to police, two children found inside the residence, unaware of what occurred are safe.
Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit later obtained an arrest warrant for the victim’s spouse.
Police reported that John Mwangi was found at Fort Cavazos after officers obtained a warrant for his arrest during their investigation and held at Killeen City Jail.
Texas authorities do believe the murder was an isolated domestic violence occurrence, and there was no additional danger to the community.
The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of relatives.
This is not the first time a Kenyan has been arrested or charged with murder in the US. Several cases have garnered attention over the years, highlighting serious allegations involving Kenyan nationals in the country.

Murder Cases Involving Kenyans in US
In December of last year, a 32-year-old Kenyan man, Nobert Matara, was arrested in the United States after the remains of a woman were discovered in his car.
Matara was taken into custody by the Aberdeen Police Department following the disappearance of 31-year-old Tracy Nyariki, who had been living in Newark, Delaware, a week earlier.
According to a statement from the police department, Matara was identified as a potential person of interest in Nyariki’s disappearance.
“On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 5 PM, officers from the Aberdeen Police Department were requested by the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware to assist in locating a missing person and a potential male homicidal person,” the statement read in part.
Matara’s vehicle was found in Aberdeen, Maryland with the suspect (Matara) in the vicinity at the time.
“Officers responded to the 1100 block of S. Philadelphia Blvd and located the homicidal male. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of human remains in a vehicle. The male was later arrested,” the statement added.
Similarly, a Kenyan man, Kevin Kang’ethe, was accused last year of killing his girlfriend at an airport in the US before fleeing.
He is alleged to have murdered a 31-year-old Kenyan-born woman based in Whitman, Massachusetts, whose body was found inside a vehicle at Boston’s Logan Airport in November.
The deceased, identified as Margaret Mbitu, was reported missing by BAMSI, a charitable organization based in Brockton, where she was employed.
