The mysterious death of Faith Musembi, a student at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) has taken a new twist following the arrest of the deceased’s alleged boyfriend.
David Kioko, also a university student, was arrested by police on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in connection with the murder of his girlfriend Faith Musembi.
Police in Thika arrested the 25-year-old student from Tom Mboya University after preliminary investigations linked him to the death of Faith.

“We have the main suspect in custody and are conducting thorough investigations. The DCIO is on that matter and the suspect will be produced in court soon,” Muchangi told the press.

MKU Student Murder
The slain first-year student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
Musembi’s lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday, May 8 in her rented room in Pilot Estate, Thika Town by her parents.
While speaking to the media, Faith’s father Boniface Musembi revealed that unknown people called them to demand a ransom of Ksh20,000, indicating that they had captured his daughter.
Musembi’s wife quickly sent the money following the distress call that was made using the deceased’s phone and later rushed to Thika to follow up on the safety of their daughter.

However, although the parents heeded to the distress call and request, the individuals who were holding Faith did not let her go.
Musembi reported the matter at Thika Police Station upon arrival in Thika. However, according to him, the officers dismissed the matter as a trick by the now deceased, her boyfriend or her friends to extort money from him.
Unsatisfied with the response, a desperate Musembi rushed to MKU to seek help in tracing his daughter.
He arrived past midnight and spent the night at the institution before making his way to Faith’s house the following morning but found it locked from inside.
Musembi revealed that a vegetable vendor operating nearby told him that he had sold groceries to his daughter the previous evening.
Police Blamed for Faith Musembi Murder
The grieving father further recounted that he went to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Thika where he reported the matter.
However, just like in the previous instance, the officers downplayed his concerns, claiming that it is a common trick used by students to obtain money from their guardians and parents.
It is upon the response that Musembi decided to break into his daughter’s house.
“When we got there, we decided to cut down the padlock. We bought a hacksaw from a nearby hardware and cut it to open the door. We then discovered the body of my daughter inside and she was already dead. From my assessment, she was killed,” he said.
Faith’s body was moved to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika where a postmortem was conducted. The autopsy revealed that she succumbed due to excessive bleeding in the uterus caused by placental abruption (the placenta had detached itself leading to excessive bleeding).
