The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has provided an update into the probe surrounding the death of a popular flashy University student, Sospeter Onyango Osungo, alias “Evance Akoko the Billionaire”.
Akoko, also widely known by his moniker ‘Sirkal’, was a fourth-year student pursuing architecture at Kirinyaga University’s School of Engineering.
Hailing from gem, Siaya County, the young man was also an entrepreneur famed for his ostentatious lifestyle and reportedly made millions through forex trading, cryptocurrency, and other online ventures.
He was found dead earlier in November after a reported confrontation with a gang of boda boda riders in Kibera slums, Nairobi.
The incident happened on Monday, November 18, night in an altercation outside a club.
DCI in a statement on Monday, December 9 said that detectives based in Kibra have arrested the prime suspect in the murder.
The Directorate said that investigations have revealed that on the fateful day, Akoko was fatally attacked by a gang of hoodlums in the Ayani area where he sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been caused by a sharp object.
“Following thorough investigations, three individuals were initially arrested and provided crucial information which coupled with other intelligence leads resulted in the apprehension of the main suspect who is set to be arraigned in court today,” DCI said in a statement.
“The DCI implores members of the public to embrace peace and avoid infractions that may lead to unnecessary loss of lives and disruption of peace within our neighborhoods.”
